Inspired by the Edgar Cayce Institute for Intuitive Studies |
Commentaries on Intuition and Writing Initial comments by Henry Reed What experiences have you had using your intuition when writing? What thoughts do you have about combining intuition with writing? To speak a little about my own experience, when I was working on the book Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self, I studied works produced by inspirational writing. One example you don't hear much about any more, but was quite influential for awhile was Ron Carey (The Starseed Transmissions). Like Edgar Cayce, he recommended allowing nature to evoke an inspirational mood in preparation for writing. I would sit outside and get in touch with the feelings of my backyard surroundings, and let thoughts of my purpose for writing flow through my mind. As I became filled with the sense of purpose, I would begin to write, inspirational style, not stopping to edit, but to allow the energy created by the sense of purpose propel the writing. This approach was quite successful and became my favorite way of writing the book. I then adopted this approach in my public speaking, going outside to allow nature to inspire a sense of spirituality while thoughts of my purpose for speaking began to focus my mind. Then I would go into the auditorium and begin my speech, not knowing where it might go, only my purpose for being there. Not only has it proven effective as "inspirational speaking," it has also given me a greater sense of meaning and fulfillment in my speaking experiences.
